The 2021 Dodge Challenger is confirmed and it will enter the new generation. One of the biggest news, besides the rumored naturally-aspirated Hemi V8, is the new platform. The speculations were suggesting that both Challenger and Charger will switch to the rear-wheel-drive platform. The same platform that underpins the current Alfa Romeo Giulia. However, that is not the case as the Challenger and its Charger sibling will continue to deploy the current architecture.
Challenger is one of the best-selling models for Dodge and the current generation will continue in the same way for a couple of years more. However, the 2021 Challenger will for sure mark the start of the new generation. That means the changes and upgrades will be significant. On the other hand, this model is still two and a half years away and most of the details are not available.

The upcoming 2021 Dodge Challenger coupe will continue to ride on its current platform. The same stands for its sedan sibling Dodge Charger. Many will find the current architecture too old as its roots are from the 90s. And while most of the company’s vehicles are getting new platforms, Challenger is still using the same one. The current architecture is present since 2011. The rumors started a couple of months ago, and some sources were saying that the new-gen Challenger will get a new platform. However, company’s CEO Sergio Marchionne denied those rumors.
He said there is no need to rush and opt for Giorgio’s platform. That means the 2021 Challenger will still use the same underpinnings as the current model. Marchionne refused to provide any further details but he suggested that the Chrysler 300 may not return.
Friendly reminder, Chrysler 300 is using the same platform as Challenger. When it comes to the exterior design, we still don’t know what refreshments will Dodge bring. So far, it is certain that the 2020 model will arrive with very minor upgrades.
2021 Dodge Challenger interior upgrades
The interior details are yet to be announced. The new generation will for sure introduce plenty of upgrades. As a result, we can expect significantly better cabin with more premium features and materials. For now, the 2020 Dodge Challenger won’t suffer many changes. To be exact, the upgrades will be smaller as the 7.0-inch touchscreen is the biggest interior update.
The 2021 Dodge Challenger will surely offer a much better cabin with a great level of comfort. We just hope for the same combination of the modern design and retro feel that was present in the cabin so far. After all, the same retro feel is one of the things why we love Challenger.
Powertrain offers astonishing performances
Literally, everyone is actually loving Dodge Challenger for its astonishing performances. The 2021 Dodge Challenger won’t get a new platform or exhaust tips. That means the current engine lineup will remain. On the other hand, the new generation usually presents one all-new drivetrain, but there is no need to speculate at this moment. For now, a 6.2-liter engine is certain. This unit will gain slightly more power thanks to the Hellcat supercharger. The Dodge’s goal is to deliver at least 700 horses. Dodge Demon is offering over 800 HP at the moment. Knowing that, the carmaker will probably re-tune the current engine to 750 horses, approximately.
Providing additional power is far less expensive than producing the all-new engine for sure. However, one significant change will happen. The 426 Hemi V8 could become available in 2020. That means the 2021 Challenger could arrive with this naturally-aspirated drivetrain. The same speculations are saying that the Ram is willing to introduce the same engine to its pickup truck lineup.
However, the rumors are still to be confirmed. This type of unit will have to meet the emission regulations. Secondly, this engine provides so much power that is not street-legal on the American soil. For sure, some special variants such as Challenger race car could get the 426 Hemi V8 engine.
2021 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon
The high-performance variant of the Dodge Challenger could also arrive once again in 2021. You must admit how strange is the fact the performance-oriented car is offering a high-performance variant. The SRT Demon will also deploy the same 6.2-liter V8 that will generate 840 horses and 770 lb-ft of torque. Those figures are making the SRT Demon the world’s strongest car built in a factory.
The 2021 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will maybe obtain a new manual transmission, but that is it. The car will not get too many innovations as the base Challenger model, for sure.
2021 Dodge Challenger price and release date rumors
The price of the upcoming 2021 Dodge Challenger will surely be higher than the current prices. That means the next-gen Challenger will cost around $35,000. The SRT Demon variant will cost up to $80,000. This muscle car will hit the dealerships at the beginning of 2021 and it won’t deploy the new platform as many people believed.
