The brand-new 2023 Jeep Meridian is a three-row SUV that will try to rival Toyota Fortuner in the future. Jeep lacked three-row SUVs for years, and now it has a lot of them. However, the manufacturer clearly has no plans to stop, and the new Meridian model is a very good example. In 2018, Jeep launched the Grand Commander SUV, followed by 2021 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models.
Moreover, the Grand Cherokee L arrived in the United States. Now, the new Meridian is an interesting model. It won’t be available in the United States. Instead, this model is heading to India and it will be based on the Commander SUV. Moreover, the Meridian model will represent a good alternative for the Jeep Compass.
Jeep Meridian Spy Shots
The upcoming 2023 Jeep Meridian will be based on the Commander model that is currently available in South America. First spy shots are here, but the fully camouflaged prototype didn’t reveal that much. Still, it seems like the Meridian model won’t largely depart from the Commander. The headlights are probably slightly different because the LED daytime running lights are sitting in the main cluster.
On the Commander, these units are separated by a light bar in the front bumper. The rear section comes with taller taillights, but the taillamps are shaped in the same way as on the Brazilian sibling. Body panels are similar, along with the mirror caps. Some exterior parts are a complete mystery, so we’ll have to wait for the official debut.
Room For Six or Seven Passengers
The interior of the 2023 Jeep Meridian is an even greater mystery. As we said, this is a three-row SUV. Reportedly, Meridian will offer two configurations, with either six or seven seats. The range-topping trim level will offer heated/ventilated front seats and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
Moreover, high-end models will be available with a panoramic sunroof, 10.1-inch touchscreen, and wireless smartphone charger. As for the entry-level models, we expect an 8-inch infotainment system, cloth upholstery, and other basic stuff including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Under the hood, the 2023 Jeep Meridian will have a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine. This Multijet II four-cylinder unit is capable of producing 200 horsepower. In the Commander model, it provides 168 hp, which means Jeep will upgrade diesel engines for India.
280 lb-ft of torque is more than a solid figure and Meridian SUV will arrive with a nine-speed ZF-sourced automatic transmission. Reportedly, a four-wheel-drive system will be available thanks to a standard Jeep Active Drive system. Some rumors are also predicting a mild-hybrid powertrain, but this is far from official.
2023 Jeep Meridian Launch Date, Price
The forthcoming 2023 Jeep Meridian will go on sale in India, probably this summer. This SUV will rival models such as Toyota Fortuner, VW Tiguan, and Ford Endeavour. The price will reportedly start at around 30 lakh, which is $40,000.
