2023 Dodge Hornet SUV Will Debut Next Year

The 2023 Dodge Hornet is coming to the markets and it is a brand-new SUV. It feels like an eternity ago, but back in November 2019, Dodge revealed a plan to introduce a new performance SUV to the market to fill the void left by the popular Dodge Journey. While the Dodge brand continues to be marketed as a high-performance “muscle car” brand in North America, there are still a few Dodge brand cars available outside of the United States and Canada that are built on front-wheel-drive platforms.

Based on the forthcoming Alfa Romeo Tonale, the all-new Hornet SUV will be a two-row crossover. The Tonale has earned international acclaim as a critical component of Alfa Romeo’s future worldwide success. The Hornet model will begin production in Naples, Italy. This model will be produced in the same plant as the Alfa Romeo Tonale version.

2023 Hornet Specs

The speculated new turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine from the Tonale might be shared by the upcoming 2023 Dodge Hornet SUV. The new 1.5-liter engine would be a member of the Global Small Engine (GSE) family, which already powers the Renegade and Compass models. The turbocharged 1.3-liter FireFly inline four-cylinder engine in those vehicles currently generates 177 horsepower and 210 lb.-ft. of torque. We anticipate that the 1.5-liter will exceed 200 horsepower.

Given that the Hornet will go on sale in North America and the Middle East, we wouldn’t be shocked if Stellantis engines find a way to include a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. This engine is from the Global Medium Engine (GME) family. This 2.0-liter unit is already present in a variety of Chrysler Group models in North America.

The Tonale will be available with an internal combustion engine, a mild-hybrid electric vehicle, and plug-in hybrid electric variants. The mild-hybrid version would have a system similar to the present eTorque system used on 2.0-liter inline-four-cylinder vehicles as well as Ram 1500 trucks. An all-wheel-drive system will be optional.

The Hornet Concept

The original Hornet concept is quite old, so the new 2023 Dodge Hornet won’t share that much with its origins. The concept is something closer to the Mini Cooper model in terms of appearance. The 2023 Hornet SUV will be something completely different. However, we can’t say that much about Hornet’s exterior and interior design. The concept is now completely out of date, so Hornet will arrive with an innovative look and modern appearance.

It will be a two-row crossover SUV, based on the Alfa Romeo Tonale model. Throughout the 1970s, American Motors Corporation offered a compact two and four-door sedan, station wagon, and hatchback coupe under the Hornet moniker. In 1987, the old Chrysler Corporation bought AMC, which was integrated into Chrysler in 1990.

2023 Dodge Hornet Launch Date

While little is known about the 2023 Dodge Hornet, we anticipate seeing testing prototypes anytime soon. According to our sources, the Hornet will begin manufacturing in mid-2022 and will arrive in dealer showrooms in the fall of 2022 as a 2023 model.
