The all-new 2022 Jeep Wrangler Diesel will hit the dealerships in the second half of 2021. Wrangler is known for its amazing off-road capabilities and a diesel engine is a must. Yes, the gasoline V6 is doing a great job, but Wrangler’s diesel powertrain comes with more torque. The diesel engine will continue to play an important role, despite Wrangler get a hybrid powertrain option as well.
The goal is to rival Ford Bronco, so Jeep can’t give up on diesel, yet. There’s no big difference between Wrangler Diesel and gasoline-powered Wrangler, as both models are looking exactly the same. Moreover, the interior is also the same. The 2022 Wrangler will introduce a couple of mid-cycle refreshments and the price should remain intact.
2022 Wrangler Diesel Towing Capacity and MPG
The upcoming 2022 Jeep Wrangler Diesel is perhaps the best possible option at the moment. Not only in the Wrangler lineup but generally, in the complete off-road SUV segment. For a start, Wrangler is using a standard 3.6-liter gasoline engine with 285 hp. However, optional 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel is the real deal. This powertrain option generates 260 horsepower and up to 465 lb-ft of torque. Until the hybrid variant officially arrives, diesel is the best option that you can get.
Jeep introduced the EcoDiesel engine two years ago. Mechanically, this engine is the same as Ram’s diesel engine. However, Jeep relocated the injection pump and the alternator. And while the diesel variant adds around 4000 pounds, your Wrangler will be more off-road-capable and it will tow around 3,500 pounds. On top of that, the EcoDiesel engine delivers 25 mpg combined, which is an improvement over the standard gasoline unit.
Exterior and Interior Changes
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler Diesel won’t depart from the regular Wrangler that runs on a gasoline powertrain. Moreover, the changes for 2022MY are not so major. Visually, this popular SUV will continue to offer a very practical exterior with a recognizable design. Wrangler is available in two-door and four-door body styles and it comes with a removable roof, doors, and windshield. Nothing new, as Wrangler SUV is known for its versatility and more practical approach. Still, the changes are minor, as the mid-cycle facelift includes slightly enlarged exterior features such as headlights and taillights.
The interior will gain an updated infotainment system. Moreover, we expect to see new driver-assistance aids as well. Besides that, the Wrangler model will be a carryover. The cabin will remain roomy, with the same layout and the same level of comfort. We expect to see more major upgrades after Ford launches its all-new Bronco SUV.
2022 Jeep Wrangler Diesel Price, Release Date
The base gasoline-powered Wrangler SUV starts at around $29,000. On the other hand, the 2022 Jeep Wrangler Diesel will cost more. Diesel powertrain is optional and it costs an additional $4,000. A diesel engine is available across all trim levels, and it comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Jeep will launch a new Wrangler at some point in the second half of 2021. As we already said, more major changes will happen after the Ford Bronco model finally arrives.
