According to various sources, the Desert Rated badge will migrate to more Jeep SUVs. The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer Desert Rated model could really happen. For the start, Jeep Gladiator Mojave pickup will be the first to get this badge.
Moreover, Jeep plans to deliver a desert rated badge to its Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Grand Cherokee models. Interestingly, but Wagoneer SUV didn’t arrive yet. That means it’s desert rated version will most likely go on sale from the start. It will be the next-gen model so this comes as even more exciting news.
What is Desert Rated?
Like “Trail Rated” the “Desert Rated” shows how one model can be off-road capable. It is a smart move from FCA to determine the vehicle’s category. There are five different tests that one model has to pass. The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer Desert Rated will have to beat unpredictable driving conditions and much more. Jeep says the desert rated models are capable of handling intense heat and invasive sand. The tests include traction, desert prowess, ride control stability, ground clearance, and maneuverability.
It is nothing new, for instance, Renegade and Wrangler SUVs. In other words, Desert Rated Jeeps are not equal and every model has its pros and cons. Moreover, the Mojave variant is the finest example. It is the most capable trim level that one Jeep’s model could have. Of course, there are Deserthawk and Trailhawk versions as well. However, these two trim levels are created to deliver something slightly different.
What the Future Holds?
The upcoming 2022 Jeep Wagoneer Desert Rated will be a body-on-frame SUV. The latest reports are suggesting that the next-gen Grand Cherokee could get the same badge as well. Some other reports are predicting for Cherokee to get a Deserthawk variant instead. It makes sense and Cherokee could go either way. Jeep Gladiator pickup truck will surely get its desert rated badge this year.
As for the Wagoneer and some other SUVs, they should obtain this badge in 2022. That means Jeep will have to upgrade cooling systems and to offer a standard four-wheel-drive system. Moreover, expect knobby tires, modified suspension, retuned traction control system, and much more. The Desert Rated badge will quickly spread but before that, Wrangler Mojave version will go on sale later this year.
What About New 2022 Wagoneer?
The all-new 2022 Jeep Wagoneer Desert Rated model will go on sale later in 2022. As for the regular Wagoneer, this SUV will arrive earlier in 2022. Even Grand Wagoneer model will go on sale at the same time. Wagoneer will offer impressive styling and roomy interior with plenty of tech goodies. Moreover, a PHEV version is a very likely outcome. As for the conventional engine choices, Wagoneer will arrive with a 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar.
On top of that, 5.7-liter V8 gasoline will be optional. Some reports are even suggesting an inline-six engine called the “Tornado.” This unit will offer a turbocharger so expect over 500 horsepower in some versions of the Wagoneer SUV. As for the price, Jeep still didn’t say anything about the official release date or the pricing details. You can read our Jeep Wagoneer review HERE.
