The forthcoming 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L will continue to deliver updates. The “L” variant arrived a few months ago. Thanks to that, Jeep went from no three-row SUVs to two three-row models. However, Grand Cherokee L is not just a model that adds the third-row. Because it is a longer variant of the Grand Cherokee model, the “L” model will ride on a new unibody platform.
Thanks to that, ride comfort is even better. Styling is the same, which comes as no surprise. Still, thanks to its longer dimensions, this SUV looks more attractive than its smaller sibling. The interior is very modern and logically, it comes with more cabin space. The performances are the same so the 2022 Grand Cherokee L comes with minor improvements.
2022 Grand Cherokee L Design and Dimensions
The 2021MY is the next-gen model so the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L won’t offer significant changes. As we said, this SUV rides on a new unibody platform and it provides better ride quality. The “L” variant is longer but it is only a good thing in our opinion as it looks better than the smaller Grand Cherokee. Still, two models are sharing the same styling and even the same exterior features.
The front fascia comes with the iconic seven-slot grille and the complete front section looks pretty straightforward. The Grand Cherokee L definitely looks more rugged and its wheelbase is longer. As we already mentioned, changes are really minor so we hope to see at some novelty in the near future.
Seven-Seat Interior Layout
The FCA is doing a great job in delivering premium interior design. New Grand Wagoneer and the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L will be no different. Basically, every interior is based on the Ram 1500 pickup truck, which is a good thing. Unlike the Grand Wagoneer concept, Grand Cherokee L won’t offer four screens. Instead, this SUV will deploy a 10.1-inch digital gauge cluster flanked by an 8.4-inch unit. Optionally, you can get a larger 10.1-inch display. The next-gen UConnect5 infotainment system will become available, which is a very important upgrade.
There will be twelve USB ports, both A-type and C-type. There will be three rows of seats and the interior room will be amazing. Jeep will even offer heated and ventilated second-row seats, something you don’t see every day. The cabin provides 30.3 inches of third-row legroom, which is still below rivals such as Ford Explorer. Finally, Jeep will offer more standard safety equipment, something its SUVs have lacked for years.
Two Engine Choices, Hybrid Still Not Confirmed
At the moment, we know the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L will offer two powertrain options. We are talking about familiar 3.6-liter V6 and optional 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engines. The standard unit will generate 290 horsepower, while the optional V8 will deliver 357 horsepower. Both outputs are using the same eight-speed automatic transmission. What we don’t know is a possible powertrain option.
Yes, Grand Cherokee will offer a hybrid system but the Grand Cherokee L variant is still a mystery. Jeep will offer a standard four-wheel-drive setup across each of four trim levels. Moreover, there will be three different 4×4 configurations: Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II variants.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Price, Release Date
The forthcoming 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L will cost around $3,000 above the regular model. Thanks to that, this longer variant of the Grand Cherokee SUV will start at $38,000. The range-topping Summit L trim will cost almost $60,000. The sales will begin this fall.
