Jeep is expanding its SUV lineup, this time, hybrids and all-electric models. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is one perfect example. So far, Jeep hybridized the Compass and Renegade SUVs in Europe. Moreover, the Wrangler model offers a hybrid powertrain in the United States.
Now, the Grand Cherokee is the next model in the line to receive some sort of electrification. Whatsoever, the latest video is showing a spied prototype doing tests in the Colorado mountains. No doubt, Grand Cherokee will deliver a lot of improvements. That includes exterior redesign, more premium interior, and the brand-new L variant.
2022 Grand Cherokee 4xe Spy Shots
The revamped 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been spotted testing alongside its three-row sibling L edition. The next-gen Grand Cherokee will add more luxury and much more. The video shows a heavily camouflaged five-seat SUV, but we can easily spot the upright front end, the recognizable seven-slot grille, the bold bumper, and the more modern headlights.
A strange-looking tailpipe is visible in the back. On the other hand, the prototype does not fully show itself, but the new Grand Cherokee is surprisingly quiet. This clearly suggests that we are dealing with electricity. While we couldn’t spot it, the Grand Cherokee 4xe will wear blue accents on the hood, like the Wrangler 4xe SUV.
Specs
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is officially happening as this is no longer a secret. Earlier this year, Jeep announced the model was in the works and that buyers shouldn’t be concerned about the off-roader being too soft. He said that the hybrid is “as qualified” as the V8 variant but has improved fuel economy.
The hybrid powertrain’s specifications are not available right now, but we should look to the Wrangler 4xe, which has 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. That’s more than enough torque for the Grand Cherokee SUV. The Wrangler may go up to 25 miles on pure electric power alone, and the Grand Cherokee could be able to go farther based on battery capacity.
Interior Changes and Trim Levels
One of the most important upgrades, besides the hybrid powertrain, is the new interior. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is getting a lot of cabin updates. On top of that, a larger L variant is happening as well. Unlike the two-row version, the L model has three rows of seats, which can accommodate up to seven passengers. The Laredo trim should remain with its basic features. The Summit and Overland trims incorporate more luxurious features such as leather upholstery, wood trims, and additional safety aids.
Furthermore, both models have a new 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen that floats just above the dashboard. Jeep also has Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio as basic features. The Limited trim level is also available, with a six-speaker stereo that can be upgraded to a nine-speaker Alpine audio setup or a premium 19-speaker McIntosh setup.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Release Date, Price
We don’t know when the manufacturer will announce the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe. The reason for that is because the company hasn’t revealed the standard five-seat variant yet. Rumors say that the 2022 Grand Cherokee will appear in dealerships by the third quarter. However, the 4xe model isn’t supposed to arrive until early next year. Jeep said that the entry-level price for the next-generation model will start at $35,000.
