The upcoming 2022 Dodge Durango will continue with the improvements. However, the 2021 model is about to arrive with significant upgrades. Thanks to that, the 2022 Durango will receive minor changes only. Durango is an SUV that needed visual refreshment and that is finally happening. The interior will also gain a couple of updates, including a new touchscreen.
However, the 2022 model won’t be so drastically improved. After all, there is no need to. An iconic SRT Hellcat version with 710 horsepower will also hit the dealerships with further improvements. Overall, look at the new Durango as a mid-cycle facelift.
2022 Durango Facelift
The upcoming 2022 Dodge Durango will introduce mid-cycle updates. That means we should expect minor changes on the outside. The reason for that is the 2021 Durango that comes with more drastic upgrades. The 2021 model comes with updated looks, including all trim levels. Moreover, this version is about to arrive and it will introduce new exterior colors, new wheels, and modified front fascia.
The 2022 Durango SUV will gain revised taillights and the rear bumper will be slightly different and bolder. The side profile will remain intact, except for the body lines that will look sharper than before. Some styling cues will be taken from the Dodge Charger widebody model. That includes running lights, hood design, and SRT 392 models will get new air intakes and rear spoiler.
Interior Changes
The interior of the 2022 Dodge Durango will only get technology updates. That means the cabin design largely remains and nothing significant will change in terms of the cabin layout. However, a relatively new 10.1-inch touchscreen is available and the new Durango will offer the next-gen Uconnect infotainment system. This is perhaps the most important update, not only in Durango but generally for the FCA.
Durango SUV is available in numerous trim levels and all of them are looking premium and stylish. Of course, the upper trim levels will provide more luxury, including leather seats and a larger display. Lastly, the new Durango will gain the latest driver-assistance aids but all of the novelties are offered as optional in the base trim level.
Engine Options
The approaching SUV will ride on the same engine lineup as the outgoing model. Everything starts with the 3.6-liter V6 gasoline output. The 2022 Dodge Durango will produce 294 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. This engine provides 22 mpg combined and it comes with a standard rear-wheel-drive system.
A more potent and optional 5.7-liter V8 generates 380 hp and 390 lb-ft of twisting power. However, the optional powertrain delivers only 18 mpg combined. Luckily, FCA will provide a new eTorque mild-hybrid system. And while the power won’t increase, Durango will get significantly better fuel efficiency.
2022 Durango SRT Could Face Limited Production
The FCA will continue with producing the SRT Hellcat variant. However, the 2022 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat will be produced in limited examples. The reason for that is the COVID-19 outbreak. Moreover, the brand’s Jefferson plant will be retooled for the new-gen 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. There is simply no place for the SRT Hellcat variant so the number of produced models will depend on the number of orders.
2022 Dodge Durango Price and Release Date
The price of the 2022 Dodge Durango will start at around $44,000. It is a small jump in price over the current model and the sales will begin later in 2021. As we said, the Durango SRT model will become available but its production is limited for 2022.
