The iconic Plymouth “Cuda” is making a huge comeback. This time, it will be a brand-new Dodge model. The upcoming 2022 Dodge Barracuda is finally happening. Year after year, we are reading rumors regarding the “Cuda” and its big return. Now, this famous car is coming back under Dodge’s badge. As you know, the Barracuda model was extremely popular in the later 60s and early 70s.
At the time, this model was known as the Plymouth Barracuda. It will be very interesting to see how Dodge will deal with this and if the manufacturer will stick to the car’s original roots. We already heard a couple of things, so here’s everything we know at this very moment.
Under the Skin
The all-new 2022 Dodge Barracuda will utilize the Alfa Romeo Giulia platform. The fans are not so happy as the Italian architecture will ruin the car’s recognizable performances. On the other hand, Alfa Romeo produced some impressive high-performance models on this architecture. Furthermore, Dodge will ditch the solid rear axle suspension in favor of independent rear suspension.
As you probably know, rivals such as Chevrolet Camaro or Ford Mustang are already using this suspension setup. Furthermore, the Barracuda will offer a magnetic dampening and probably a couple of interesting mechanical upgrades.
What About Engine Specs?
The entry-level 2022 Dodge Barracuda will be surprisingly affordable. However, it will offer a 3.6-liter V6 engine that also powers the Challenger model. This unit develops 305 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. However, a supercharged V8 is a must. This engine will be available in special edition models and it will generate slightly above 700 horsepower.
Of course, this variant will cost significantly more, but the performances will be simply astonishing. There are some other possible outcomes, but these two engines are the most likely outcomes at the moment.
2022 Barracuda Exterior and Interior
The 2022 Dodge Barracuda will look extremely sporty and aggressive. At this moment, we saw a lot of renderings and possible design solutions. However, we still don’t know what Dodge plans to do with the all-new model. New Dodge Barracuda will be based on the previous Plymouth Barracuda, so we don’t expect a lot of surprises here. Logically, the new model will look modern and some exterior parts will have to depart from the original “Cuda.”
As for the interior, Barracuda will offer a modern sports coupe interior with a recognizable layout and a room for four. The cabin will be spacious enough and Dodge will deliver a new Uconnect infotainment system as well. We hope to see a completely new interior design that will depart from other Dodge’s vehicles. Without any doubt, Barracuda will offer a lot of modern features, just like its Camaro and Mustang rivals. Upper trim levels will add more luxury, including the leather seats with Alcantara finishing.
2022 Dodge Barracuda Price, Release Date
The price of the all-new 2022 Dodge Barracuda will start at around $28,000. Of course, this is the price of an entry-level model equipped with the V6 engine. There are a lot of rumors regarding this model and its possible comeback.
Many reports are suggesting a two-door coupe and some reports are even predicting a convertible variant as well. The manufacturer will reveal more info in the coming months and the sales will begin at some point next year.
