2021 Ram Dakota Spied Testing, First Look

Return of the Dodge Dakota will happen next year. However, this pickup will arrive under the Ram’s badge. That means we can expect the all-new 2021 Ram Dakota in the near future. Return of the iconic Dakota model came as a surprise for the pickup truck world. New Dakota will be a mid-size pickup and Ram clearly wants to conquer this segment.

After the months of rumors now is finally official that the Ram will launch this model. We expect an attractive look with plenty of aggressiveness. Some cues and features are borrowed from the Jeep Wrangler SUV. On top of that, both Dakota and Wrangler are produced in the same Ohio plant. On the other hand, some cues are taken from the Ram 1500 light-duty pickup.

2021 Ram Dakota Appearance

The forthcoming 2021 Ram Dakota will borrow plenty of stuff from the famous Jeep Wrangler SUV. Dakota will be a mid-size pickup with a design closer to the Ram 1500 model. The previous generation will have a huge impact on the all-new model. The new-gen Dakota will lack uniqueness. However, when you put all the pieces together, the result will be impressive. Some parts of the exterior design are still a mystery. Fresh design and modern styling will surely attract customers.

Interestingly, Dakota will share the same platform with Wrangler. It is a body-on-frame architecture so we expect plenty of similarities with Jeep’s lineup of SUVs. The front fascia will look distinctive and aggressive. The iconic crosshair grille is gone and Ram will probably opt for the large letterings. Headlights, wheels, and bumpers are clearly Wrangler’s features. We are still waiting for the rest of the details such as dimensions, rear fascia look, and optional features.

Interior

Interior of the brand-new 2021 Ram Dakota is a complete mystery. So far, not even one detail is available. However, the cabin will surely look similar to the Jeep Wrangler or Ram 1500 models. Both cabins are looking unique and stylish. On top of that, both models are offering a very practical interior. We can expect similar things inside the 2021 Dakota.

The mid-size pickup will look modern and comfort will be on a high level. On the other hand, we don’t expect a unique dashboard and shapes. Upper trim levels will offer more luxury such as leather seats and additional safety aids. FCA will release more details at the beginning of 2020.

2021 Ram Dakota Powertrain

So far, we know that the 2021 Ram Dakota will be based on the Jeep Wrangler SUV. For that reason, we believe a 3.6-liter V6 is the most probable option under the hood. This engine will also power the all-new Gladiator model. It generates 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Upper trims will possibly get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit.

Thanks to a turbocharger, this engine will produce over 300 horsepower. Both engine choices are using the same 8-speed automatic gearbox. A four-wheel-drive setup is optional on the base model and standard on upper trim levels. A 3.0-liter six-cylinder is the most probable turbodiesel choice. It will deliver 260 horses and 440 lb-ft of twist. A hybrid model is another rumor that is unlikely to happen at the beginning of the new generation Dakota.
