The FCA is expanding its SUV lineup with a new version of the Compass. The upcoming 2021 Jeep Grand Compass will go on sale later this year and here’s what we know so far. Like Cherokee, Jeep plans to offer “Grand” versions of Wagoneer and Compass models. Jeep lacked seven-seat SUVs for years and this is a smart way of removing the problem.
Instead of creating an all-new model, Jeep will introduce larger versions of the popular SUVs. Codenamed “Low D”, Grand Compass will be based on the current-gen Compass. It will offer a room for seven passengers and a couple of new things along the way. Interestingly, Jeep will reveal its new model in the Brazilian market.
2021 Grand Compass Design
New seven-seat SUV will get the same facelift as the regular Compass model. The 2021 Jeep Grand Compass will get a redesigned front bumper and revised headlamps. Moreover, a seven-slot grille should largely remain but it will be moved upward. Jeep could also introduce a redesigned air dam and fog lamps too. The major difference between the models will be visible from the B-pillar onwards.
The platform is the same, but it will be extended. That means the new Grand Compass will be a larger version, logically, and it will provide a longer wheelbase. The s-shaped chrome trim on the roofline is the same but we will be seeing a larger third window from now on.
Interior Offers a Room for Seven Passengers
Larger dimensions and longer wheelbase will provide a generous interior room. The forthcoming 2021 Jeep Grand Compass will also feature a longer rear overhang over the regular model. Of course, the highlight is the third-row that will increase seating capacity from five to seven. On top of that, the new SUV will offer a boot capacity of 700 liters, with the rear seats been folded down.
Put the third-row seats up and Grand Compass will offer 110 liters of boot capacity. Besides this info, we don’t know that much about the interior. However, we are pretty sure that the Grand Compass will offer the same interior as the regular Compass. Still, Jeep teaches us that the seven-seat variants are usually more premium than the five-seat SUVs.
Engine Lineup
The all-new 1.3-liter MultiAir engine could power the arriving 2021 Jeep Grand Compass. This four-cylinder turbocharged engine is capable of producing 178 horsepower. On top of that, Jeep will include a six-speed manual transmission, besides the standard nine-speed ZF automatic transmission.
On some other markets like India, Grand Compass will offer the same engine lineup as the regular Compass SUV. That includes a 2.0-liter turbodiesel with 170 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Optionally, Grand Compass will offer 1.4-liter turbo gasoline that can produce 160 horses and 185 lb-ft of torque.
2021 Jeep Grand Compass Price and Release Date
The manufacturer will sell a new 2021 Jeep Grand Compass SUV globally. Jeep will firstly offer its new seven-seater in Brazil later in 2020. After that, Indian and American markets will have an opportunity to purchase a brand-new Grand Compass. The price will start at almost $40,000.
