The all-new 2021 Jeep Gladiator Diesel is almost ready to hit the dealerships. The diesel engine is a significant upgrade for the arriving pickup truck. Whatsoever, many customers skipped the 2020 model because Jeep announced the 2021 Gladiator will arrive with a diesel powertrain. Gladiator is a pickup truck with great off-roading capabilities, so diesel is a must.
Fuel efficiency will be improved, and a higher level of torque is expected too. The diesel variant will cost slightly more, and it will be available in Sport, Overland and Rubicon trim levels. The sales should start in the last quarter of the year and here’s everything we know about the new Gladiator pickup.
2021 Gladiator Diesel – Changes
The forthcoming 2021 Jeep Gladiator Diesel will look like the regular gasoline-powered variant. Jeep won’t deliver significant visual upgrades. The pickup looks fresh and innovative. It is a body-on-frame pickup truck that shares plenty of components with the Wrangler SUV. A 137-inch long-wheelbase remains, along with the vehicle’s dimensions. Jeep offers plenty of practical exterior features. The highlight is removable roof panels and windshield that are so easy to take off.
On the inside, Gladiator will look modern, but the focus is on the practical side of the cabin. The pickup truck provides plenty of space for the occupants, and you can find a lot of high-tech amenities. For a start, a 7-inch touchscreen will be offered as standard. The new infotainment system provides quicker response and is easier to use. Beside tech updates, Gladiator won’t get any significant changes.
Diesel Engine
The upcoming 2021 Jeep Gladiator Diesel is official. The new model will arrive with a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine. However, no one is surprised as this is the only logical outcome. Whatsoever, Ram 1500 pickup and Jeep Wrangler SUV are offering the same output. It can deliver 260 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. FCA offers an eight-speed automatic transmission, which is another thing everyone expected to happen.
Manual transmission is still quite a mystery, but it is likely for Jeep to offer manual gearbox in some versions. Gladiator comes with a 3.73:1 rear axle ratio. However, the Rubicon trim level comes with a 4.10:1 ratio. A low-range transfer case is standard, and a diesel engine will tow slightly above 8,000 pounds.
Fuel Economy, MPG
The approaching 2021 Jeep Gladiator Diesel will get improved fuel economy, compared to the regular Gladiator with gasoline powertrain. As we said, the same unit is available in Wrangler SUV. Wrangler comes with 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Gladiator is a pickup truck, so the fuel efficiency will be slightly lower.
However, many experts are predicting the same 29 mpg on the highway. On the other hand, riding in the city will be estimated at 20 mpg. If that really happens, Gladiator Diesel will offer slightly better fuel economy figures than Chevy Colorado.
2021 Jeep Gladiator Diesel Release Date and Price
The price of the Gladiator pickup truck starts at $36,000. That means the 2021 Jeep Gladiator Diesel will be available for $40,000 or slightly above that.
Diesel is available in Sport, Overland and Rubicon trim levels. However, nothing is official yet, and we are waiting for Jeep to introduce further details. The sales will begin in the last quarter of 2020.
