Chrysler is finally doing some radical changes and upgrades. New 2021 Chrysler Commander should represent a true refreshment in the company’s lineup. Whatsoever, Chrysler plans to deliver five brand-new models in the upcoming years. Commander is the first one to arrive. According to various reports, this model will be very similar to the China-only Jeep Commander.
Of course, Chrysler delivers the U.S. version. This SUV could share a lot of components with Jeep Commander and that includes the four-cylinder engine. Its price and exact release date are yet to be revealed. However, Chrysler should launch its new SUV later this year.
2021 Commander Exterior Design
As we said, a new 2021 Chrysler Commander will look very similar to its sibling. Of course, we are talking about the Jeep Commander SUV that is available in China. Two models will have a lot of things in common. For a start, a 110-inch wheelbase is very certain. Another similarity is the platform. The different suspension setup is a possibility. However, the main difference between the models will happen in terms of design. So far, spy shots are not available and the only source of information is the latest renderings.
According to these photos, the shape of the SUV is intact. On the other hand, the front fascia should be different. Chrysler’s design language will be easy-to-recognize. Jeep’s famous seven-slot grille won’t be in the offer. Instead, Chrysler will apply its famous grille design. A similar thing will happen to the headlights that won’t be finished in the oval shape.
The interior design is still quite a mystery. Yes, we can confirm that the cabin of the new 2021 Chrysler Commander will be similar to the Jeep’s interior. However, we don’t have a clearer picture of it. This SUV will provide more than a solid interior room. New Commander will be 192 inches long so expect ample legroom. There will be three rows of seats. Of course, Chrysler is yet to release exact interior details. Until then, all we can do is speculate.
Possible Engine Options, Hybrid Included
Things are slightly clearer under the hood. The forthcoming 2021 Chrysler Commander will most likely arrive with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine. This turbo-four unit is capable of producing 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Another possible solution would be an optional V6 powertrain.
Furthermore, the Chinese version of Jeep Commander will arrive with a new PHEV variant. This system is based on the same four-cylinder engine so Chrysler could largely benefit from that. On top of that, the same hybrid system can be found in Chrysler Pacifica minivan.
2021 Chrysler Commander Price and Release Date
The price of the brand-new 2021 Chrysler Commander will start below $30,000. However, the exact price is yet to be revealed. This SUV will go on sale in the last quarter of 2020 as a model for 2021.
Some reports are even suggesting a “Journey” nameplate, instead of “Commander.” However, this is unlikely to happen. Still, let’s wait for a couple of more weeks when Chrysler should release more specific details.
