2020 Ram 3500HD Mega Cab Longhorn Dually: Specs, Price and Release Date

The forthcoming 2020 Ram 3500HD was spotted on a test drive recently. The model on the spy shots is the Mega Cab Longhorn Dually. It is hard to say if there will be any dimensional changes, but have in mind that it could happen. It is the same pickup as the regular 3500HD model, it only offers dual rear wheels. There won’t be significant differences besides those rear wheels.

Longhorn is a well-known Ram’s upper trim so we can expect premium interior design with great comfort. The upcoming 2020 3500HD comes with the rugged appearance and clean exterior design. There will be three powertrain options, two gasoline, and a single diesel unit. Besides the Longhorn trim, there will be plenty of trim levels in the offer. Dually models are specifically made for hauling and towing things.

2020 Ram 3500HD Looks Upscale And Modern

The newest spy shots are showing us that there won’t be significant exterior upgrades. That means the 2020 Ram 3500HD will look almost the same as the 2019 model. The camouflage on the spy photos failed to hide most of the vehicle. Thanks to that, we can see the front grille will remain. Generally, the whole heavy-duty lineup will be based on the light-duty Ram 1500 pickup. It is a good thing as the pickup looks upscale and modern.

However, heavy-duty models are more aggressive and rugged. It is yet unclear if the 2020 model will grow in size or not. More chrome materials are visible, especially on the Longhorn trim. The bumpers are unchanged and the LED license plate lights are the same as on the 1500 model. The Ram 3500HD Mega Cab Longhorn Dually rides on a four-wheeled axle. Perhaps dual rear wheels sound easier to remember. A receiver trailer hitch is standard and unchanged.

According to spy shots, the interior will look simply amazing. On the other hand, have in mind the Longhorn trim is on those photos, so we still don’t know how the base model will look like. The 2020 Ram 3500HD will sport plenty of wood trims, especially on the dash and the steering wheel. The interior will be heavily based on the Ram 1500 model.

That means we can expect a lot of high-tech features. The new infotainment system is up to date and it supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The level of luxury will be tied to a specific trim level. That means the base model will arrive with the cloth upholstery and pretty much basic stuff. Upper trims such as Big Horn will offer larger displays and more standard features. Longhorn models are available with the leather upholstery and plenty of optional amenities are standard. Mega Cab models can accommodate up to five passengers and the legroom will be ample.

2020 Ram 3500HD Powertrain Specs and Towing Capacity

The forthcoming 2020 Ram 3500 HD will offer the same three engine choices as before. That even includes the Mega Cab Longhorn model as well. However, if you are opting for Longhorn models, you can skip the first engine option, which is a 5.7-liter Hemi V8. This unit is producing 383 horses and 400 lb-ft of torque. The more recommendable option is a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 and it generates 410 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque.

This engine isn’t aging at all, something we can’t say about the standard 5.7-liter output. However, if you are looking for a real towing king in the segment, a 6.7-liter Cummins engine is the right choice. This six-cylinder diesel powertrain returns 385 horsepower. And while the number of horses isn’t impressive at all, 930 lb-ft of torque will make you think twice. With this engine and dual rear wheels, the 2020 Ram 3500HD can tow up to 33,000 pounds.
