The all-new 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited won’t be that much new. Generally, most of the arriving model will be a carryover from the current model. However, this SUV still remains one of the best off-road editions we had an opportunity to see. With the Ford Bronco still waiting for its release, Jeep Wrangler still has no real competitor.
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is mostly known for its off-road abilities and powerful engine. Moreover, the latest technology, quality design, and good fuel economy are making this SUV a segment leader in so many ways. The new model will arrive next November but it won’t bring so many innovations. The changes and upgrades are really minor. The exterior will remain and the interior will get slight improvements. As always, Wrangler Unlimited is available in a four-door configuration.
2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited dimensions and shape will stay intact
There will be SUVs with better off-road capabilities or better exterior design. However, you can’t take the tradition from the Wrangler model. The shape and look are the same for almost 80 years now, which is impressive in so many ways. Of course, each and new generation brings more modern exterior design, you just have to keep your vehicle up to date. The 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will be the same. Not the same as the previous model, but the same as all of the previous models. The dimensions and shape will stay intact. This SUV is very practical and modern, besides the tradition it certainly has.
The current Wrangler presents the JL generation, that almost didn’t depart from the previous JK. The hood is slightly longer and cleaner. The grille features an iconic shape and the fenders are higher. LED headlights are optional on the base trim, the same stands for the LED taillights. We like Jeep’s decision to introduce more glass in the new generation.
Removing the windshield is very easy and door are slightly harder to remove, but again, not hard. You can fold the windshield by unscrewing four bolts. Previous models had 28 bolts, so you do the math how time you have to spend. The rear window looks wider than before and it improves better rear visibility.
2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited cabin will get some updates
Unlike the exterior, the interior of the 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will get some more visible updates. For the start, the materials are more durable and more upscale. Moreover, the cabin will get more modern technology features than before. The goal is to deliver more comfort to the already practical cabin. The cabin looks gorgeous in full red color. The instrument panel sits slightly higher but the seats will stay in the same place and position. Taller glass will improve visibility even more now. Leather upholstery is optional on the base trim or standard on upper trim levels.
That includes leather seats, a leather steering wheel and leather door panels. Furthermore, longer armrests are providing additional comfort. However, the biggest changes will happen in the technology department. New Wrangler Unlimited now holds 7.0 and 8.4-inch touchscreen displays. The infotainment system is Uconnect and it is up to date. It also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Besides those features, the new model will offer more standard equipment than its predecessor.
2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited engine
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will leave the production with the same 3.6-liter V6. The Pentastar drivetrain is another carryover and it still generates 285 horses and 260 lb-ft of torque. However, the new model will introduce at least one turbocharged diesel engine. The choice is coming down to the 2.0-liter four-cylinder that returns 270 HP and 295 lb-ft of twists.
Another option is a 3.0-liter turbodiesel with 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. However, this engine is still not official. Both part-time and full-time all-wheel-drive setups are available.
Transmission and fuel rating
The customers can choose between the 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. Wrangler Unlimited with the base engine and the automatic gearbox is delivering 17/21 mpg.
2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited price and release date
Some would describe the price of the 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited as “too high”. However, this SUV has no real competition until the Ford Bronco becomes available. The rest of the competition includes Toyota 4Runner and FJ Cruiser. The price starts at around $30,000 and upper trims such as Rubicon will cost over $40,000. This SUV will go on sale in November 2019 as a 2020 model.
