The upcoming hybrid version of Jeep Wrangler may not look very different from the regular variants, after all. The rugged styling and iconic vertical 7 slat grille will be retained. The same will be true for the round shaped headlamps. It will be offered several exterior colors and soft and hardtop may be on offer.

The cabin may be a little different though. The vehicle will also be equipped with skid plates and suitable tires to tackle rocks and sand with aplomb. It may be sold in 2 and 4 door setup- as per FAC sources.

Advanced safety features and amenities

The upcoming Jeep Wrangler PHEV is expected to be laden with a lot of advanced safety features and nice amenities. It is expected that the vehicle will be equipped with FCA’s UConnect infotainment system and it will be laden with a bright touchscreen unit. This system will be compatible with Bluetooth, and USB.

It will be equipped with several sensors and radars to alert the drivers. Apart from several airbags, features like traction control, vehicle stability control, rearview mirror, lane keep alert and automated emergency braking will be included. Some safety features may be offered as optional upgrades.

As a matter of fact, the USP of the upcoming Jeep Wrangler PHEV is its powertrain. The setup will be based on the unit used in the company’s popular Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan. However, this is not going to be like the 48-volt mild hybrid setup FCA uses in the existing lineup of Jeep Wrangler!

The 3.6-liter V-6 unit in the hybrid Pacifica model may be used in the upcoming Wrangler PHEV too but some tweaks may be made. However, it is not known where the battery pack will be kept. The vehicle will have a robust suspension and off-road ready setup.

The exact price of the upcoming Jeep Wrangler PHEV is not clear. However, it is only natural that FCA will price it a bit above the existing Wrangler lineup. It will be released either in late 2019 or in early 2020. From the latest update Jeep manufacturer is currently working to release few new hybrid SUVs by 2020. From this source, the Jeep Wrangler hybrid may be offered as the 2021 model.

Summing it up

The upcoming 2020 Jeep Wrangler Plug-In Hybrid is going to be a path-breaking vehicle for FCA. It is going to be sold with a solid PHEV powertrain. The vehicle may be a tad pricey but it will come with several amenities and good performance.
