Remember the Gladiator concept? A Jeep’s concept from thirteen years ago? Well, it’s about to hit the production and it will most likely carry the name 2020 Jeep Scrambler. We already have a Wrangler-based pickup truck, and now we have the newest spy shots. The spy shots are showing a heavy-camouflaged pickup truck for what we believe is the new Scrambler. It looks very similar to the Gladiator concept.
Visually, the base Scrambler model will look just like the Wrangler SUV, but with the bed. However, new Scrambler won’t arrive as a complete carryover. It will offer plenty of uniqueness, in terms of styling and styling. However, the 2020 Scrambler will arrive with the hybrid engine and it will be borrowed from the Wrangler Hybrid model.
2020 Jeep Scrambler exterior features
As we already wrote, the all-new spy shots are available. On those photos, we can see a pickup truck under a heavy camouflage. The shape, dimensions, and styling are very similar to the Gladiator’s concept. We already know the concept will transform into a final product in the near future. The most likely outcome is the brand new 2020 Jeep Scrambler pickup truck. The exterior is clearly based on the Wrangler’s model but with a bed. The front end comes with almost the same features as the Wrangler pickup truck.
Just as the Gladiator concept, new Scrambler will get a roof with three options. A three-piece hardtop finished in black paint or it will be body-colored. Moreover, the variant with a more premium and softer top is also available.
The 2020 Jeep Scrambler could become the very first open-air pickup on the market. Scrambler will be a longer-wheelbase model with the five-foot bed and wider tailgate. You can expect better cargo management thanks to the storage boxes.
2020 Jeep Scrambler interior will be Wrangler-based
The interior in the Gladiator concept is basically the same interior you can find in the Wrangler SUV. That means the 2020 Jeep Scrambler pickup will be Wrangler-based. The dash, infotainment system, seats and everything else will be practically the same. That also means the pickup won’t feature hard plastic materials and aging buttons and knobs. No, new Scrambler will get high-end materials and soft-touch surfaces. The 8.4-inch Uconnect system is available and this touchscreen offers astonishing interface.
However, this unit will be optional, while the 7.0-inch touchscreen will be standard. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will be standard. All of the controls are new and even the dashboard hosts some auxiliary buttons.
Safety ratings
The 2020 Scrambler will come with a good safety rating. Unfortunately, most of the safety equipment will be optional. The pickup segment is getting more and more safe each year and new Scrambler should represent a perfect example.
2020 Jeep Scrambler engine specs and battery pack
When someone mentions Wrangler or Jeep, one of the first things you think of is the Pentastar engine. The 3.6-liter V6 is Jeep’s favorite choice and so many models are using this type of drivetrain. The Wrangler is using it, and the Gladiator concept was presented with the same unit. The 2020 Jeep Scrambler will use famous V6 Pentastar engine for sure. However, a hybrid drivetrain is a huge possibility and it will be the same output from the Wrangler Hybrid model. Pairing the powerful V6 engine with the two electric motors is the Jeep’s future. Scrambler will also get a 16-kWh battery pack. Total output will be around 320 horses and 290 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to that, Scrambler could manage around or maybe over 30 mpg combined.
Those numbers should put the 2020 Scrambler in the leading position when it comes to its respective segment. Powerful hybrid drivetrain with great mileage is the future of the company and Jeep will deploy the same variant to basically all of its new models. A 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic transmission will be in the offer. Moreover, a four-wheel-drive will be probably the standard driving setup. Scrambler pickup will add new coil spring suspension, multi-link control, and solid axles.
