2020 Jeep Patriot Changes, News

The forthcoming 2020 Jeep Patriot will make a return after its discount in 2017. The discount happened because of the aging design, outdated features, and poor performance. However, the new model will get a complete redesign and it will compete in the compact SUV segment. This SUV is very efficient, reliable and affordable. Of course, Patriot is still far away from the Jeep Renegade, but if you are looking for a cheaper version, this is it.

The 2020 Jeep Patriot offers plenty of safety equipment, great interior room, and two engine choices. The off-roading is a possibility as the Jeep now adds new Freedom Drive off-road package. Generally, Patriot can’t compete with the likes of Mazda CX-5 or Hyundai Tucson, but all of the rivals are costing significantly more.

2020 Jeep Patriot styling cues used from the Jeep Wrangler model

The exterior of the 2020 Jeep Patriot is similar to the four-door version of Jeep Wrangler. And while the Wrangler looks more aggressive, the Patriot comes with a boxy shape and plenty of traditional styling cues. The front grille offers seven vertical slots and the round headlights are the highlight of the front end.

Patriot is a very practical vehicle, both in and out, so the features such as roof rails are standard. As we wrote, off-roading is a possibility with the new Patriot, so this SUV offers skid plates and some additional off-roading equipment. Tow hooks are also standard and the base model will ride on 16-inch steel wheels. Higher trim levels such as Latitude are using 17-inch aluminum rollers.

2020 Jeep Patriot cabin is comfort and luxury

The upcoming 2020 Jeep Patriot is a 2-row/5-passenger SUV. The comfort and luxury of the interior are strictly tied to a specific trim level. With that in mind, the base model looks utilitarian and simple, but the hard plastic materials aren’t providing such a great feel.

However, you can opt for the leather seats or an all-new 6.5-inch navigation touchscreen. The telescoping steering wheel is not available at any model and the adjustable driver’s seat is optional. The room inside the cabin is ample, and the cargo room is also generous.

2020 Jeep Patriot fuel economy is slightly lower

The new 2020 Jeep Patriot will arrive with two engine options. The base model gets a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 158 horses and 141 lb-ft of torque. This unit is using a front-wheel-drive only and the standard 5-speed manual transmission. An optional CVT gearbox is in the offer and the fuel economy is rated at 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The optional 2.4-liter drivetrain can produce 172 hp and 165 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is slightly lower, but nothing significant.

However, this four-cylinder engine offers 4WD configuration and the 6-speed automatic transmission is standard. Jeep is now offering a “Freedom Drive I” and “Freedom Drive II off-road package”. This first package is for the regular winter conditions and it won’t affect fuel economy at all. The second off-road variant will help new Patriot to tackle rugged terrains. Additionally, all-terrain tires are standard, along with the skid plates.
