Jeep’s plans to “Hawk” its lineup of SUVs is perhaps the best thing about this company. We already know about the Trailhawk and Trackhawk variants. All of them are offering some astonishing appearances and capabilities. However, Jeep is planning to use Deserthawk package on the models Cherokee and Grand Cherokee. The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Deserthawk is coming to the markets at the beginning of 2020.
However, Deserthawk is not the all-new thing. The concept started back in 2015, and the 2017 Jeep Renegade already had such a variant. Deserthawk is a “sand performance” model with better capabilities. This is not an appearance package, no, far from that. It adds special paint and graphics but it is not everything. Deserthawk also adds rock rails, Class III towing package and “Rock” driving mode.
2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Deserthawk exterior upgrades
Grand Cherokee will arrive with the minor upgrades only. We felt it was another disappointing year as this model offers the same things over and over again. However, Jeep confirmed the Deserthawk model and now the things are getting interesting. The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Deserthawk is underpinned by eight desert-specific engineering standards. The goal is to deliver more speed and better sand capability. For that reason, some things will change, significantly. The exterior will look more aggressive, it will sport tow hooks.
Remember the red tow hooks on the Trailhawk models? Well, this is more or less the same thing, but the hooks are orange on the Deserthawk model. The front and rear fascia won’t suffer almost anything. However, more aggressive side sills are visible, along with the larger BFGoodrich all-terrain tires. The ride height is lifted by 2-inches and this model will get LED fog lights. The hood adds large extractor vent and the front part sports massive openings.
2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Deserthawk interior offers slightly more luxury
The all-new 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Deserthawk will get the same interior as the base model. However, this variant comes with slightly more luxury and it offers different interior scheme. Leather seats are available and Deserthawk badging is visible in every part of the cabin. Moroccan Sun interior accents are in the offer too and those accents are looking gorgeous.
My Sky open-air roof is standard along with the all-weather floor mats. Besides those upgrades, the rest of the interior is the same. New Grand Cherokee will get an update of the infotainment system and some additional safety aids.
2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Deserthawk powertrain
It is still a mystery what engine will power the upcoming 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Deserthawk model. The base Grand Cherokee comes with a 3.6-liter V6 that generates 295 horses and 260 lb-ft of torque. Besides that, a diesel 3.0-liter unit is available and it returns 240 HP and 420 lb-ft of torque.
The Jeep Renegade Deserthawk, on the other hand, offered a 2.4-liter Tigershark. Jeep likes to deploy this type of engine that delivers 184 horses and 174 lb-ft of torque. A 9-speed automatic transmission with all three types of engines, but the sand variant will probably get a different type of gearbox.
The Tigershark engine delivers 31 mpg on the highway, which is good figures. All of the Jeep’s engines are available with a well known Select-Terrain drive system. That means the upcoming Deserthawk offers different driving modes.
You can switch between the Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud and auto modes. Moreover, Jeep added a Rock mode lately. It will be interesting to see which engine will Jeep deploy. According to latest speculations, Jeep will look to add a Class III towing package as well.
2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Deserthawk price and release date
The price of the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Deserthawk will start at $10,000 over the price of the base model. Knowing that the base model will cost slightly over $30,000. For that reason, the Deserthawk model will be priced at around $40,000. This variant will go on sale in the first quarter of 2020.
