2019 Jeep Yuntu 3-Row Hybrid SUV

Jeep is slowly extending the lineup of crossovers and SUVs. Jeep’s five-year plan includes new hybrid and all-electric vehicles. Moreover, the Japanese carmaker is ready to introduce brand new SUV. The upcoming 2019 Jeep Yuntu has an important role to play in those plans. If Yuntu sounds familiar to you, maybe you’ve heard about the concept from 2017.

The 2019 Jeep Yuntu is a 3-row hybrid SUV with the high ride and will firstly hit the markets in China. Some reports are saying that Yuntu won’t be available in the U.S. However, Yuntu’s spy shots leaked recently. This SUV’s test vehicle was spotted riding through the streets of Michigan. Have in mind the American market is crazy about the three-row SUVs.

2019 Jeep Yuntu exterior looks upscale and curvy

After the concept, we saw the first spy shots. It is clear the 2019 Jeep Yuntu will look squarish as we expected. However, the front part looks brilliant with the narrow and wide grille. Moreover, slimmer headlights are placed horizontally which is a departure from the concept. The front fascia looks both sleek and aggressive, and the hood looks very modern. The rear end comes with a massive bumper and horizontal taillights. The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer model are based on the Ram’s body-on-frame chassis.

However, the 2019 Yuntu will share the underpinnings with the Fiat Chrysler’s unibody models. That means the 4×4 configuration is a must. Whatsoever, this configuration should be optional, while the two-wheel-drive will come as standard. This platform includes an independent rear suspension. On the concept, we saw suicide doors and some other design and styling cues. We still don’t know which of the cues will make the production. Generally, the exterior looks upscale and curvy.

Unfortunately, spy shots are not providing enough interior details. However, the approaching 2019 Jeep Yuntu will borrow some styling cues from the rest of Jeep’s lineup of SUVs. On top of that, the interior won’t depart too much from the concept for sure. You can expect the cabin similar to the interior of the Cherokee and Compass models, but more upscale. According to the concept, Yuntu will use the same interior theme as the Compass.

However, 2019 Jeep Yuntu is significantly longer than the Compass. Newest Jeep’s hybrid SUV is a three-row model with room for seven passengers. The seats are comfortable, and first and second row are offering displays on the back. The dash is really long and it extends all the way to the second row. Furthermore, the seats are mounted on stanchions which will improve the floor space. In that way, Jeep created the impression of the floating seats.

2020 Jeep Yuntu powertrain options

When Jeep introduced Yuntu SUV to the world, Jeep said that it could run solely on electric power for short period of time. Logically, Yuntu will arrive with the hybrid drivetrain. The 2019 Jeep Yuntu will borrow the drivetrain from the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid model. That means the 3.6-liter V6 will be mated with the pair of electric motors. However, this V6 is not the standard “Pentastar” unit, as it offers less power.

Whatsoever, total output is rated at 260 horsepower. Power storage comes with the 16.0-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Solely on electric power, Yuntu can travel up to 30 miles. On top of that, 84 MPGe sounds promising. The upcoming SUV will sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 7.7 seconds. Unfortunately, a 4WD system won’t be available. However, the all-wheel-drive setup will be optional. All Yuntus will offer a standard front-wheel-drive.
