2018 Jeep Renegade Interior Details and Trims

Inside the cabin of the 2018 Jeep Renegade, things get more interesting. The focus is absolutely more on utility than style and oomph. You get both hard plastic and some soft-touch surfaces in the cabin.  The military cues are evident in the dashboard and overall cabin design. However, back seat space is not suited for tall adults. Default cargo space is just 18.5 cubic feet. Small-item storage options are pretty good.

The Sport and upward trims get 12-volt power outlets, keyless entry. The Latitude trim gets a 7.0-inch display, satellite radio, 16-inch wheels and Bluetooth. The Limited model gets 115-volt power outlet, heated front seats, and different 18-inch wheels. In Trailhawk trim, there are rock-driving mode and spare tire.

The Uconnect infotainment system has been spruced up and it is really good to use. However, based on which trim you buy- the size of the touchscreen will vary. The interior colors include Black, Sandstorm/Black and Ski Gray/Black.

Safety and Amenities

The 2018 Jeep Renegade gets decent safety features. It also gets a good number of amenities. All trims get rearview camera and airbags, rear child safety locks, back-up camera, side impact beams and low tire pressure warning.

Optional safety features are automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning and blind-spot monitor.

2018 Jeep Renegade Engine Changes

The 2018 Jeep Renegade is now laden with two powertrain choices. The base trims get equipped with a turbo 1,4-liter unit that makes 160-horsepower output. This engine comes with 6-speed manual transmission. The next one is stronger Inline 2.4 engine that makes 180 HP and it gets a 9-speed automatic gearbox. However, the base engine produces less noise. You can get either AWD or FWD.

The ride is a mixed bag and there is some amount of body rolling owing to the vehicle’s tall-wagon build style. These models get FCA’s Selec-Terrain setup. If you opt for 18-inch wheels- ride quality suffers a bit. The Trailhawk trim is the best to tame rocky terrains. It also gets increased ground clearance, skid plates and special bumpers.

Fuel Economy and Towing Capacity

Fuel economy figures are not that impressive. The base one turbocharged engine has fuel economy in city/highway 24/31 mpg for the 2WD and 24/31 mpg for the model with 4WD. However, the second one engine that is offered with 9-speed automatic gearbox has been EPA rated 22/31 mpg 2WD and 21/29 mpg for the 4WD.

With the 2.4-liter engine and 4WD system, the 2018 Jeep Renegade can tow up to 2,000 pounds. However, for the less powerf1,4-liter engine towing is not recommended.

Ride quality is not the best in the segment but you get enough trim choices to pick from. The enhanced infotainment setup is bliss and you get enough customization choices. The new 2018 Jeep Renegade will lock horn with models like Chevy Trax, Kia Soul, Subaru Crosstrek, Mazda CX-3 and Honda HR-V.
